Anna Martha Mark
Mother Of George Edward Reinhardt

Floyd Earl Reinhardt's grandmother was Anna Martha Mark Reinhardt. The extensive history of the Mark family is in the possession of Margaret Reinhardt of Ogallala, Nebraska. Margaret is the wife of Louis J. Reinhardt, son of Louis C. "Dick", who was Jacob and Martha's son.

Martha Mark was born in Melgerhausen, Kreis Melsungen, Hessen, Germany. Her parents were Martha Bang and Johann Conrad Mark. Johann was the son of Conrad Mark a farmer and was born October 2, 1799 in Melgerhausen.

Martha Bang Mark died in Germany. Johann married Martha Elizabeth Lengemann. They lived in a fine, big brick farmhouse at Melgerhausen. It was in good repair in 1956 (see picture). However, there were no longer any Mark family members living in the town.

Anna Martha was the only child of her Father's first marriage and was only 1 l/2 years old when he remarried. By the time the family came to America, she was eleven. She traveled with her step-mother, Martha Elizabeth and her father, Johann Conrad Mark. There were already four little step-siblings and her step-mother was pregnant. George Mark was born and died on the high seas on the way to America.

By 1845, when the next baby was born, they had settled in Muscatine, Iowa. Martha Elizabeth and Johann Conrad Mark had eleven children. Most of them spent their lives in Muscatine. Johann Conrad Mark died there in September 18, 1886. Martha Elizabeth died in Wilton Junction, Iowa on February 20, 1902.

When she was 18 years old, Anna Martha married Jacob Reinhardt. They were married in Muscatine on June 5, 1850. Their children were:

Anna born May 16, 1851 in Iowa
Henry born November 14, 1853 in Iowa
    J. William born December 20, 1856 in Iowa
John born February 5, 1859 in Iowa
Louisa born January 16, 1861 in Iowa
Henry Edward born August 5, 1863 in Iowa
Jacob B. born January 14, 1866 in Iowa
Frederick C. born November 4, 1868 in Nebraska
Louis C. born June 24, 1871 in Nebraska
    * George Edward born April 4, 1873 in Nebraska
It is believed that Anna, Henry, John and Henry Edward died as children.

A German Bible that belonged to Jacob and Martha Reinhardt has a listing of the names off their children. It was not uncommon to name a second child the same name as a child who had previously died. In this case the name Henry was given to two children in the family.

It is believed that Martha belonged to the German Methodist Church in Muscatine. She joined the English Methodist Church in David City soon after her arrival in 1877. Martha died of a heart attack on April 15, 1908. She was buried in the David City Cemetery.

Along with her husband, Jacob, Martha pioneered in Lancaster County and Cuming County, Nebraska. She was 76 years old when she died.
