Aurelia Boser Beeman And
The parents of Velma Viola Beeman were William Lawrence Beeman
and Aurelia Bozer. Aurelia Bozer came from Saxony, a state in east
central Germany. Aurelia was born December 17, 1851. Some say she
was born on board a ship between Germany and America, so she could
never obtain a birth certificate.
Velma's father, William Lawrence Beeman, was born in Toledo,
Ohio sometime between 1843 and 1846. William is reported to have
three brothers, John, Fremont and Clemsil. It is believed Clemsil
was murdered on the Badger River in Iowa.
Aurelia Bozer and William Lawrence Beeman were married October
29, 1870 in Frankfort, Benzie County, Michigan. It has been stated
that William was a tugboat captain on Lake Michigan. A search by
the genealogical society in Traverse City, Michigan shows no record
of this. On the 1880 census he is listed as a laborer. Perhaps
his work as a captain is not recorded or William's father was the
captain.
The children of Aurelia Bozer and Lawrence Beeman are as follows:
We know Pearl was born in Onawa, Iowa in 1884. So the family
moved West between 1880 and 1884.
Floyd Earl Reinhardt remembered visiting his grandparents,
Aurelia and William Beeman, at their home on the banks of the
Missouri River at Onawa. He enjoyed spending time there.
The brothers and sisters of Velma Beeman have been traced by
Amy Lynn Emery of Phoenix, Arizona. Amy is a great-grandaughter
of Velma Beeman.
Amy reports that Hattie, Velma's sister married Charlie
Truths. They settled near Chadron, Nebraska. They ran horses at
AK-SAR-BEN and were involved in rodeos in western Nebraska.
Isabella or Bell sold real estate. She was very attractive.
She married Bill Stone and lived near Los Angeles, California.
William Jr. was in the insurance business in Omaha. Ed worked
for the railroad in Oakland, California. Before bridges were built
across the bay he ferried1 train cars.
Pearl married Dr. W. J. Luxford, a graduate of Creighton
Medical School. They lived in Decatur, Nebraska. She worked as
a practical nurse helping her husband in his practice,
William Lawrence Beeman and Aurelia left Onawa in 1913. They
bought a lot in the village of Decatur. In 1920 it was suggested
they move to California for Aurelia's health. William Beeman died
in Sunland, California, April 15, 1930. He was buried at Valhalden
Cemetery, South Burbank, California.
Aurelia returned to the family home in Decatur. She died two
years later. She is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur,
Nebraska.
